Today we ‘re going to talk about eleven
of my favorite vinyl records. These are records that I have listened to,
over a thousand times and for some of them there’s a small and interesting story I hope you enjoy the video. My name is Yannis and I am the founder of
Vinylom.com. In the description below you will find some
interesting links about Vinylom as well as a link to the marketplace where you will find
millions of vinyl records from hundreds of vendors from all over the world. I’ll be very happy if you find the next vinyl
record you’re looking for in the Vinylom marketplace. So Let’s start with the first vinyl record
I have here Scorpions – World Wide Live
Scorpions were the band that put me in the hard and heavy sound. The first song I listened to that blew my
mind was “In trance” I was 14 years old, and I remember one of my classmates playing
the song on his tape player, and as soon as I listened to it I said “this going to be
my favorite music” Some months later a neighbor gave me the “Love at first Sting” and
the “Blackout” albums on tape and the rest is history. “World Wide Live” is a great collection
of “Scorpions” with songs from 1979 to 1985. It has a very good flow of songs and I listen
to it very pleasantly. The sound has been edited in the studio like
all live albums, but that doesn’t matter at all. In the good old days, a live record marked
an artist’s change. The change of record company, the change in
sound, etc. Here marked the change in sound, at least
temporarily. “Savage Amusement” their next album was
a great record but from there and then “Scorpions” lost a bit of the momentum they had in their
music. They are still one of my favorite bands. I bought this vinyl in 89 from a record store
in my town that no longer exists. Great live album, Great! Anothet great live album
Simon and Garfunkel – The concert in central Park
These guys have written great songs and they’ve been one of the best acts in the music business. This album captures a concert attended by
500.000 people in 1981 in Central Park. Simon and Garfunkel after 10 years were found
again on stage. They may not have had the best relations between
them, and that was obvious on stage. But that didn’t matter to the people who enjoyed
a concert that’s still in history. The “Scarborough Fair” song in this album
is wonderful and I think it’s my favorite performance of this song. I remember I bought it in 1989 from a local
record store along with the “Pyromania” of “Def Leppard”. Favorite Songs: “Scarborough fair” “The
boxer” and “The time of New York” a Garfunkel’s song which Ilistened for the
first time when I got the record and I loved it. The best time to listen to the Concert In
Central park is a cold winter evening with a lit fire in the fireplace drinking red wine
alone or with great company. Great live album
We love Tracy!!! Tracy Chapman This is a classic disc from Tracy Chapman
and a debut album that stood out from the similar releases of 88. Simply beautiful music and meaningful lyrics. This album addresses some difficult topics
like Social Injustice, Poor neighborhoods, domestic violence. I like the political message of this here. The record contains too many wonderful songs. In my opinion she was one of the best things
that could happened in the 80’s music. I had it on tape, bought it on CD in 1993
and bought the record in 2005 from a record fair in Athens. Favorite songs: “fast car”, “for my
lover” and of course talking about revolution. Yeah, great album… Rodger Hodgon – In the eye of the storm There was a time for some of us, who were
buying a record because we had heard a song that we liked very much and we wanted it. For me the record that represents this situation
is “In the eye of the storm” by Roger Hodgon. The song I had listened to and had blown me
away, was the “Only because of you”. An atmospheric masterpiece, a precious song! One of my favorite songs for many many years. This is Roger Hodgon’s first solo career record. Of course, the record as a whole is wonderful
and has many beautiful tracks. My two favorite ones are only because of you,
of course, and “Lovers in the wind” I usually hear it with Supertramp records. This is the second copy I bought from a friend. I don’t remember what happened on the first
copy. And yes it’s a great album Amy Winehouse – Back to black I bought this records along with too many
other different records from a private individual in 2011 shortly after after Amy died. I didn’t listen to her then, but my little
daughter, who was ten years old at the time, did. When she saw the LP she said, “This record
is mine”. And I gave it to her. I kept him my records, but the album was hers. In 2017 I broke up with her mother, I took
the record with me more to protect him since my daughter doesn’t have a record collection
yet and I didn’t want that record to be destroyed accidentally or intentionally, if You know
what I mean. Besides my daughter, I even have a son. They both love music, and that’s something
that makes me happy because it gives me another channel of communication with my kids. My son has not developed an interest in the
vinyl record, and I think that sooner or later this will happen as he likes various old bands
like The Beatles. In case my kids don’t collect vinyl records,
that’s okay. This vinyl after many years can be a very
good memory for my daughter when her father will no longer be in this… dimension. And in my son I will give a copy of the “White
album ” of “Beatles ” as the “Back to USSR ” is a song that he likes. Other than that, I like quite this album. My favorite tracks are: “Tears dry on their
own ” and “Back to Black» It’s also a shame that Amy isn’t among
us. That girl was very talented
Great album… Another great record… Pink Floyd – Dark side of the moon… This is a vinyl record whose music I’ve listened
to endless hours. But what I remember is the day I bought him
in 1991 when I was 19 years old. There was a place in Athens under the Acropolis,
which Individuals sold every Sunday morning used vinyl records in a small alley. It was a Paradise for those who bought records
back then because you could find anything you wanted. I remember one Sunday there was a girl sitting
on the sidewalk and in front of her had a small box with 60-70 vinyl records. She had a sadness in her face that I still
remember and it was obvious she was selling her records. All the records were great rock classics and
I wanted them all. She had Rory Gallagher, Pink Floyd, Frank
Zappa, UFO and other great things. At my age, that was all I wanted to listened
to. And please remember there was no internet
back then Finally I bought the dark side of the moon
and the “Nightingales and bombers” of Manfred Mans Eath Band, another great record. I gave 5000 drachmas then 15 euros in today’s
money) which was all the money I had. A little pricey now I think about it but it
was a great memorie. Good days and Great record… Oh Boy !!!!
Kiss is a band that I don’t like very much. I have two or three of their records and that’s
it. Now you’re going to tell me what KISS has
to do with Paul Diannos Battlezone. Ok, this is fun. One Sunday of 1992 I bought a bunch of records
from some flea market in Athens. Among other vinyl records I bought the “Children
of madness”. A few days ago I had listened on the radio
the “Rip it up” song of Battlezone, which is an amazing song, I liked it and I wanted
to buy the record. I found this record used and bought it. For some reason, I didn’t check him out when
I bought him. I saw it more carefully when I came home and
inside there was “Crazy nights” of Kiss. I wasn’t happy at all, the truth is this. But one thing prompted me to put the record
in the turntable and listen to it. And I liked it. And I kept the record. And Crazy Nights is one of the records I like. “Reason to live” is one of my 20 favorite
songs. Every time I see or listen to this record,
I remember this funny story, and I also remember that everything happens for a reason. Oh this is Great! Camel – Stationary Traveler This is a fantastic album that is not well
recognized as it deserves. The stationary traveler is the first Camel
record I heard that my sister had brought home when I was twenty. Camel has become one of my favorite bands
and I have almost all of their records. I know that stationary traveler is not their
best record, but I can distinguish it from their entire discography. It’s important to remember that this is a
concept album about the difficulties faced by East German refugees trying to escape into
West Berlin. Music is intended to reflect this. It contains some great songs like Refugee,
West Berlin, fingertips, missing, stationary traveler. Cloak and Dagger Man. The truth is that you have to be in a certain
mood to listen to this record, but the music it contains is amazing. This is my sister’s copy, and I’ve kept it. Great album, Great, great, great album !!!! Saxon – innocence is no excuse
Saxon is one of my five favorite Hard and Heavy bands. Innocence is no excuse was the bands strongest
shot with which they tried to conquer America. Their fellow citizens from Great Britain,
Def Leppard, had succeeded, Iron Maiden had succeeded, the Saxon wanted to conquer the
huge market of America but they didn’t manage to succeed for many reasons. The innocence is no excuse was the first album
I listened to from Saxon at the age of 15 and I loved it. Powerful melodic Hard Rock music with some
excellent songs that elevate your mood. My favorite 2 songs here are “Back on the
streets ” and “Call of the Wild “. The record also has one of my favorite covers. Ι bought it in the early 90 ‘s from a record
store in the center of Athens that no longer exists. I usually listen to it when I work on the
computer. It lifts my mood and helps me work better. Metallica – Ride the lightning. The best Metallica album hands down. Me personally I like acoustic parts in metal
songs. So when I listened to “Fade to Black”
for the first time, my mind exploded. An amazing song like all the disc of course
and here you will find some of the best songs of the Metallica. “For whom the bell tolls”, “Creeping death”,
“Fight fire with Fire”. All of them are great metal classics. Of course, the record belongs to the top ten
metal records of all time without any hesitation. The album reminds me of the time when me and
my friends gathered on the weekends and listened to music loudly, drank beers and talked about
bands, music and girls of course. This is the second copy. The first one’s gone, I don’t know where. I bought it in 2000 from a record fair in
Athens. Great record
And last record here Iron Maiden – Somewhere In time
If there is a record that reminds me of my Hofh School years that’s Somewhere in time. Somewhere In time is the Iron Maiden album
that doesn’t even have a filler song. It also has an amazing cover with an incredible
cyber Eddie with too many details that can make you look at it for hours. The sound on this album until today is absolute
fantastic. The Iron Maiden themselves say that Seventh
son is the evolution of Somewhere in time but between these two albums I prefer Somewhere
In time, he grew more in me and I prefer it. I bought this vinyl record in 1990 from a
friend who stopped listening to this music and gave me all his albums for very little
money. I like to hear it on Sunday morning as soon
as I wake up. “Stranger in a strange land” and “Caught
somewhere in time” are my most favorite song So these were eleven vinyl records that have
great music and emotional value to me I do of course have several records of great collective
value for which I will be making a video in the future. In the comments field below you can tell me
which your favorite records are or if any of the records you have seen on this video
are your favorite. That’s it for today. Thank you very much for watching this video,
