Although, to be honest even though I am severely excited, everyone else, less so. In terms of being a prime, if you halve it and round it up to the next whole number, it’s still prime. So that is double prime in my books. And it’s the beginning of a 10 year prime drought. Although back in the 14th century we had a record 33 years with no primes. And in the 70s we got through 22 years with no prime, so we’d be okay. But just in case, I have some non-prime facts as well. It is the smallest number to be a palindrome in the consecutive bases 31, it’s a prime in base 31, and in base 32. There you go, 2017 is also which is not 2016, provided without comment. And finally, fact number 17, it is the number of permutations of 8– What a ticker! It’s the number of permutations of 8 objects and the first three objects are not in their original order. Now knowing you and how much you like these dice I figured I'd get your input on the argument my friend has on why their "fair" d20 isn't exactly fair….. You see, he buys all his dice from a manufacturer who sells them "un-tumbled"… Y'know…. So all the edges are sharp and pointy, he argues his dice are more fair because the smoothing of the corners on the dice makes them roll unevenly and could make them biased to roll a certain way…. Would this have more of an affect on the outcome than the numbers being in the most fair order on the dice?

Last year my Maths teacher was teaching us about prime factors, and he showed: "This is the prime factors of [some small number].." a few times, and then he put on a big number and just scribbled down the whiteboard, as he thought there would be many, many prime factors. As it turned out, he had put 2017 on the board, which just happens to be a prime LOL.

I don't get the rules of fact 17. If a double fall is two consecutive numbers being smaller than the one before them, and having 1 2 3 isn't allowed anywhere, there'd be 4 permutations for 3 elements, not 5 like the page says

Fact 17: I'm guessing what you MEANT to say is "permutations of 1,2,…,8 so that no three consecutive elements are in increasing order". That is very, very different from what you said. I suppose these are closely related to the Euler numbers (up/down zizag numbers) which you get from removing "increasing" from that condition.

What you said was: "Number of permutations of 8 objects where the first three are not in order", that's totally ambiguous. What on earth do you mean? On the screen you say "number of permutations of n things without ABC so that clarifies that "first three" you must mean mean the 8 objects have an order (like A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H) and you don't want A, B, C to appear in order.

That would be:

((3!)-1)*(8 choose 3)*5!=33,600, not 2017 …

(arrange ABC in a way other than ABC, pick spots to place them, arrange the other 5)

Or do you mean ((3!)-1)*6*5!=3600 which is the number of strings in the digits 1,2,…,8 so that 123 doesn't appear as a substring.

Or do you mean 8!-5!=40200 which is the number of strings in 1,…,8 which do not begin with 123?

Maybe you mean the number of strings in 1,2,…,8 so that the first three digits in each string is not in order.

That would be:

(8 choose 3)*((3!)-1)*5!=33,600

(choose which three letters to put in the front, rearrange them so they aren't in order, then arrange the remaining 5). Interestingly, this is the same as the number of ways to arrange 1,2,…,8 so that 1,2,3 do not appear in order.

Still no result giving 2017.

Prime birthday in a prime year: I have a database of all prime numbers between 1 and 100,000 stored in a database (that list took me over a week to calculate). So if you take a starting point of zero and another point the number line being a multiple of 2 and lay one line over the other, how many prime numbers will overlap. I have been toying around this for a few days now and am getting some interesting results.
