Beau Burchell Recording a Track with Discrete 8 Synergy Core
My name is Beau Burchell, guitar player
and founding member of the band Saosin and record producer/mixer
in Southern California. As a songwriter and producer, I’m always
coming up with new song ideas and riffs and themes and when the Discrete series came out, I thought it
would be a great opportunity to see what it would be like to take this into a
situation and put it through its paces. So I invited Alan over and we plugged in
the Discrete 8 to my laptop, not using any of my normal outboard preamps or
hardware. We even monitored through the built-in headphones that are all in
Discrete 8 and you know miked up the kit with all normal stuff like a 57 on the
snare drum and you know we were extremely happy with how it turned out.
The Discrete 4 and the Discrete 8 sound awesome. They have the same A to D
conversion, the same clocking, the same quality mic preamps. We use the Discrete
8 because we needed 8 channels to record live acoustic drums but if you’re
programming drums or using an electronic kit or recording keyboards or vocals,
the Discrete 4 would be perfect.
