Burning Questions: YouTube Partner Program Changes

Burning Questions: YouTube Partner Program Changes

September 18, 2019 100 By Kailee Schamberger

If I’m no longer in the Partner Program,
do I lose features like Cards and End Screens? What if I have less than $100 in my
AdSense account, will I ever get that back? Does YouTube only
recommend videos that are showing ads? Did this whole thing
happen because of Logan Paul? How am I supposed to
make it to 1,000 subscribers now? Hey, Matt Koval here
from the YouTube Creator Academy here to help you with
your burning questions and theories. The Topic: Changes to the YouTube
Partner Program announced in January 2018. Let’s dive in. Theory: YouTube won’t
promote a video unless it’s monetized. This has been a big myth for a long time. I understand where it comes from,
people think that YouTube is a business they’re making money, surely they just
promote the videos that are making money. Right?
No, definitely not true. Fun fact: the Ad system and the
Search & Discovery system are separate systems. Monetization has no effect
on how your video performs in Related Videos or Search
or Trending or any of those things. Question: How can I get the money I have
in my AdSense account if it’s under $100? For a little background AdSense payouts don’t go out
unless you have at least a balance of $100. If you want to pull that
money out and you don’t have $100 the only thing you can do,
at the time of the making of this video is to cancel your AdSense account and
in that case, they will send you the payment even if it’s under $100
and they’ll do so in the next billing cycle. Theory: YouTube changed the Partner Program
because of the Logan Paul controversy. Nope, not true.
It was just coincidental timing. The changes to the Partner Program
have been worked on for several weeks it just happened to coincide with
a certain controversy going on on YouTube. But there was no correlation. Question: Do I need to be
in the YouTube Partner Program to have access to features like
Cards and End Screens and Custom Thumbnails? Nope.
The only thing affected at the moment is the ability to link off to external websites,
but we’re actually changing that. We’re in the process of making sure that
even if you’re not in the Partner Program you can link off to external sites. Question: How am I ever going to make it
to 1,000 subs and 4,000 watch hours? We realize it’s a higher bar now and I gotta tell you, my own personal
channel was taken out of the Program so I know how this can feel But we think that if you’re
passionate about what you do on YouTube if you’re passionate about making these videos that when you do get into the Program,
you’re gonna be in a more protected place. Do you know that here
on the Creator Academy Channel we have all kinds of tips
and tricks and tutorial videos we have a masterclass series
