EDIUS 8 Basic Tutorial: Register Offline
If you have purchased the license for EDIUS Pro 8 you need to have an active internet connection in order to activate and work with EDIUS. If you have purchased a license for EDIUS Workgroup 8 then an internet connection for your workstation is not required. In this case you have the option to activate your license via a different computer which does have internet access. To do this follow these steps. Go to the GV license manager which you can find in the windows taskbar by opening the hidden icons. Right-click the GV license manager and open the menu offline activation create ID file. In the next step you will be asked for your serial number. Insert this into the designated field here and confirm with ok. The following step will ask you where the ID file should be stored. In my case I’ll choose the desktop and confirm with ok. Now we can see that a new folder has been created called Activation. Copy this folder to a USB stick by drag and drop. Next connect the USB stick to a computer which has internet access. In my case it appears as device K. Copy the activation folder to the desktop. Open the folder and run the EDIUS activation program called GV activation.exe. The following message will be displayed: do you want to activate the license? Confirm by clicking yes. After the activation has been performed you will find a file called response.key This file must now be transferred back to the computer that has EDIUS installed on it. Once again you can use the USB stick to do so. Now I am back on my offline computer which has EDIUS installed. To finish activating EDIUS I once again open the GV license manager. I select offline activation, register activation file and then select the response key from the USB stick. The activation is complete when a confirmation message is displayed. Now you are ready to use EDIUS Workgroup 8 on your computer. In some cases it is advisable to deactivate EDIUS, for example if you do not need EDIUS on your computer anymore or if you plan to install a new windows operating system. To deactivate EDIUS on an offline computer you have to do the following: right-click the GV license manager and choose license list. Right click on the registered EDIUS Workgroup 8 license and choose offline deactivation create ID file. Once again I save the file to my desktop and confirm with ok. Copy the deactivation folder to a USB stick and transfer it to a computer with an internet connection. Repeat the steps you have already done for the offline activation. Once you are back on the computer on which EDIUS has been installed, open the GV license manager, choose license list and click on offline deactivation register activation file. Now make sure that you do not select the response key for the activation but select the one from the deactivation folder. The deactivation is complete when a confirmation message is displayed.
