NARRATOR: Idris Elba, he
does it all, from leading man to dance party DJ. And then there’s what he
can do behind the wheel. This is “Biography.” Idris grew up in East
London, and he discovered a love of cars from his dad. You see, his dad worked for
30 years on the assembly line at a car factory. After work, Idris
and his dad would eat dinner together,
glued in front of the TV, watching rally driving. But what is rallying, you ask. Well, a rally takes place
on an unusual race course, like a desert. And after years of being
a spectator of the sport, Idris finally got in
the driver’s seat. Then in 2015, Idris
wanted to break the flying mile, an 88-year-old
land speed record in the UK. So Idris practiced driving
his souped up luxury car on everything, from
tarmacs to farm land. “You have to think, I’m not
a passenger in this car, I’m the master of this car.” And all that training paid off
when he hit a new speed record of over 180 miles per hour. Idris enjoys the sport so much
that he even plans on owning a classic rally car team. Whether on screen or
off road, Idris Elba is always in pole position.
