IK Multimedia MODO BASSの使い方① 基本概要編(Sleepfreaks DTMスクール)

Hello, my name is Otsuru from Sleepfreaks. Today I will show you how to use IK Multimedia MODO BASS that was released recently. Up until now, the large capacity sampled systems were the mainstream of virtual bass. But the MODO BASS system is designed with physical modeling. It’s a kind of a synthesizer. But the sound is great and very close to the real thing. It doesn’t use a lot of CPU memory and HDD because it’s a synthesizer. So I think it will help you when you use electric bass instruments. Anyway, how useful is this? Let’s listen to the sound samples first. Can you believe the physical model of the bass? It is very realistic. I think you can see the technological evolution of virtual instruments. OK. Let’s do it. Now you probably notice this bass is a fender jazz model. There are a lot of bass’ in the top line.
These are included in these contents. If these were used sampled systems, the capacity will get huge and expensive. But this product has a lot of models of bass and is not so expensive.
I think this is a strong point of this one. You can choose these twelve bass’ here. and each bass has a good quality. Let’s listen to the sounds of a few models. This is a precision bass. This one is a music man, I guess. This is a Rickenbacker. Violin bass. This one is a modern bass. I think each sounds has original character. There are presets that are good for applying to each bass sound. There are many presets for the style of playing too. So beginners can do well by using these presets firsts. Let’s see other functions. This is a Play Style. Then options for play style will appear. See left side. It’s easy. Playing with “Fingers” or “Pick” or “Slap” One of the good things of MODO BASS is that is doesn’t load any samples allowing for quick changes. Last sample sounds were with fingers, let’s listen to the sounds with Slap next. I play it like Slap style because the Slap samples are not good. Parameters are not for Slap now but you felt it was close to the real thing, wasn’t it? Listen to the sounds of Pick with a sample. It had a kind of solid bass sound as with a pick. These switches and parameters are controlled by Key switch or MIDI CC. So you can change it anytime in your music. I will show how to use it in next video. MUTING is to control the vibration in the strings. This is very easy to control with a percentage. Listen to it. Good. STROKE will depend on which playing style you choose. When “FINGER” is chosen, you can design which finger plays in STROKE. “Alternate” means alternating between the index and middle finger.
“Index” means playing with only the index finger.
“Middle” means playing with only the middle finger. When “PICK” is chosen,
Up, Down or Alternate. When “SLAP” is chose,
Slap is Thumping or Pulling.
Auto means the system simulates more naturally. Next is also complicated.
When “PICK” is chosen, SCRATCH will appear here. You can control scratch level with this. Normal or Hard. Hard makes for more rough sounds. When ”Finger” is chosen, TOUCH will appear.
There are three levels, Normal, Hard, and Soft. This is the way of pluck that is not same as the velocity parameter.
Try to find the best one for your music. “LET RING” is little bit complicated. Turn ON for sustaining the sound while using the same strings. Like this. Now I’ve already released a key, but still the sound is sustained. When you use other strings, the last sound is muted. When you play the same string in a row, with a pick, without LET RING, sound will be strange like this. LET RING is now ON. You can easily play to make eight beats sound in Rock. FINGERING shows position of fret. First position means it is played with the first five frets. With Easy, it plays bass sounds like a common bassist. With Nearest, it plays with moving to nearest fret. You can choose to use OPEN STRING or not. This sound has turned off OPEN STRING. The sounds move to next without open string. Turn on. Look here. I think OFF is better, if you want to play some phrases smoothly. Last one, these two knobs for making some noise. DETACH NOISE makes noise when sounds stop. Can you hear sounds kind of “click”
I will gain it. The sound has been turned inside out. It depends, but Detach noise help some phrases for realism. SLIDE NOISE makes noise when you slide. I will show it in the next video. Let’s see the Strings tab. This “String” is really interesting.
4 means 4th string like a general electric bass. if you change it, you can do dropped tuning or 5 strings bass for example. Look at this.
Now it has the bottom E. It can simulate different string thickness. In ACTION, it signifies height of strings. High is for a hollow sound.
Low is for making some harmonic overtones. These three signify type of strings. Round Wound and Flat Wound are in the TYPE section. Round Wound makes for bright sounds.
Flat Wound makes for muffled sounds. GAUGE is thickness of strings.
Light, Medium, and Heavy. Heavy is the thickest. Try to use this properly. AGE is interesting as well. It can simulate the strings age.
“Broken in” is kind of old. “Old” is very old.
“New” is new. High tone is a little bit different.
I guess “Broken in” is most useful in general. In the right, this is for tuning. 440 is a frequency of A4.
You can change it. This is the last one in this video. In this section, you can change electric systems around pick up. Change volume of the bridge side and the neck side. This parameters balance is very important to make sound. MODO BASS can use a PIEZO pick up, which is inside of the body. Can you hear the added sound of the vibrating body? This is about Circuit – Active or Passive. Choose Passive for controlling only the TONE knob.
Choose Active for only EQ. Passive is with most of jazz basses.
but you can do modifications with MODO BASS. This is a maniac function that is for changing pick ups of other basses. Looks different, sounds different, I can play with this function. You can move the pick up also for changing string tension to change sounds. I think variable pluck point already exists. But variable pick up point is rare with such a detail. So interesting. Finally, you can enjoy exploring bass sounds with the many functions of MODO BASS. Intro is done. Next video will show you how to write notes. How to use Key switches for playing expressions. How to make sounds with an Amplifier and FX. Thanks for watching. Thank you for watching this video!
