IK Multimedia MODO BASSの使い方② 実践編 音作りと打ち込み（Sleepfreaks DTMスクール）
Hi, I’m Otsuru from Sleepfreaks. I will show you how to use MODO BASS vol.2 following the last video. I will explain how to set up an Amplifier and an Effecter in this Amp / FX tab first. Then, in the next Control tab, Setting key switch by keyboard and detailed settings of rendition by CC MIDI. I will explain “Amp / FX” first. How to set up an Amplifier or Effecters. If you want to set up an Amplifier, click here. This one. Then you will have The Amplifier parameters here. If you want to set up Effectors, click here. There are foot pedals here. Then you will have The Effectors parameters here. About Amplifier. Click this Amplifier to display the parameters. You can choose from two amplifiers. Tube type or Solid State type. So you can choose by clicking this illustration or by list here. These parameters change depending on which amplifier. With Solid State, There is Gain, and 3-bands EQ and GRAPHIC EQ for detailed settings. There is a “LIMIT”. What is this?
Listen to the music with ON/OFF.
Start with LIMIT : OFF Next, LIMIT : ON It made for a little bit stronger compressed sound. When you choose Tube amplifier, There are GAIN, and 3-bands EQ with MID Frequency for targeting. And also, there is PUNCH and HARMONICS. Let’s listen to the sounds.
Start with PUNCH OFF. With PUNCH ON The sounds became more compressed. The other one, HARMONICS. Listen to it. The sound became more distorted. Each amplifier has different characteristics. You can try to find the best one for your music. Both amplifiers have AMP, D.I, and MASTER parameters. MASTER is for master volume. AMP and D.I. . You can set up the ratio of an amplified sound and a direct sound here. This mix is one of the most famous. Listen to it. Only Amplified sound. This is bass sound. Good low tone. How is D.I. ? Low tone is not strong, but the sound has Harmonic overtones. I think it is going to be the core sound. So you can try to find a good balance of punch and core. Like this. Finally, I think you will find it in mix with other sounds. Next, Effecters. These four are connected, and parameters are here. You can choose which effector you want to use for first one. These effectors are good for bass sounds. For example, Compressor parameters with COMP is strong, VOLUME and GAIN REDUCTION.
Very good. Check it out. It’s very clear. Now This chain has Comp, Graphic EQ, Octaver, and Envelope Filter. But Comp and Graphic EQ are only working now. If you want to turn it on, click here, or on this icon. it’s good. You can choose a lot of effecters. Try to make your sounds. We will look at the Control tab at the end. I will explain how to use keyswitch and MIDI CC. Look at the top left here. Bend is Pitch bend. It means choking the bass. It’s off now. If you want to do choking, select it. But if you choose Pitch Wheel for BEND and SLIDE, the sound will be too bent. Usually SLIDE is most useful while playing bass. So I think it’s better to select Off or Control Change if you are choking. SLIDE is one of the techniques for sliding the left hand from one fret to the next to change pitch. I really recommend that you assign Pitch Wheel in SLIDE because Slide is used a lot. You can decide how much slide with RANGE beforehand. For example, I turn pitch up right now. Two means a whole tone. If you set 12, it’s the octave. Nice. It sounds realistic. By the way, do you remember the last video? I want to talk about SLIDE NOISE. It’s related. Listen to it with a lot of SLIDE NOISE. So it has some noise. Sometimes this noise is good for a realistic sound. Try to use it. Next VIBRATO. In general, CC1 is assigned to modulation wheel. You can change VIBRATO speed with RATE. Like this. Faster. Did you get it? Slower. The sound is winded slower. MUTING and PLUCK Position are here. I already explained it. Muting percentage and Pluck position is here. Where the player plucks on the strings. If you want to change these parameter while playing music, you can do it with CC19 and CC16. So try to assign these in a way that works well in your DAW. Next. This one is LEFT HAND. You can control where the left hand will be. The sounds are different depending on strings if it’s the same note. So this is a reason to change the position of the left hand（CC 17）. Let’s look at this keyboard. Specially High place. 5, 6 and 7 are highlighted in red. Actually these keys can change the position of the left hand also. I will try it. I will bring up semitone by semitone from F. Like this. You can change it by keyboard. I think this way is better than CC. Of course, If the selected left hand is not good for the note, it will be changed automatically. So this Left Hand switch is just for selecting where it will focus. Next. LEGATO SLIDE. In general, CC64 is assigned to your sustain pedal. I will show you how to use it later with MIDI data. And last one. CHORD. Basically only single note works in MODO BASS. When you toggle CC18 in CHORD, you can use chord temporarily. I will show you later an example of this. Look here. Keyswitch. From left side, A-1. This is LET RING. I’ve already explained this. The sounds connect naturally while playing same strings. So you can change it ON or OFF while playing music. Next key A#-1 is for GHOST. This is used often as well. It’s very important to make a mood of bass. Next is FORCE. FORCE B STRING. Similar ones are in various places. D0, E0, G0 and A0 These are related to pitch of open strings. B-1 is only for string no.5. E0 is for no.4. A0 is for no.3. D0 is for no.2. G0 is for no.1. you will use it, if you want to play with your specified string. Next C0 is for Hammer On and Pull Off. Plucking with next or further fret strings. The sounds goes up, it’s Hammer on. Going Down, It’s Pull off. These are Hammer on and Pull off. it is used for smooth phrases. Next C#0 and D#0. I’ve explained this last time as well. About STROKE. Pluck with Index finger or Middle finger. I recommend alternating here if you need to use index or middle finger, change it by keyswitch. Let’s see F#0. HARMONICS. Playing with only Harmonics. You will use it sometimes. F#0, G#0 and A#0 are assigned to FINGER, PICK and SLAP. it’s easy to change the play style while playing your music. Now it’s FINGER to PICK. or SLAP I think this is a strong point of MODO BASS it is easy to control a lot of things. Let’s look at some examples that use Keyswitch and MIDI CC. In the beginning, play with Slide. It is a legato slide. It’s used by CC64 (Sustain). Sustain is here. How to use CC64. Here. This is a start note of slide. And this is the end note that has to cover the start. You shouldn’t separate too far these notes. And Put Sustain a little bit before the start. In addition, I want to explain some other notes and key switch. This one F#0 decided play style is “Finger”. This E0 forces to use 4th strings. it should be here because slide will use only one string just in case. There is a ghost note of A#-1 before this slide. On tricky bass sounds, it is better to put a ghost note before the slide to create an atmosphere. These are details but an important technique. Next There is a key switch again. C0 with increasing sound. This means C0 has hammer ON. It’s for a smooth connection. There are two ghost notes here. Hammer ON again. This D0 is forced to use 2nd string. You may have found the sound to be a kind of slide. In fact, there is pitch bend. This is an important point in using slide. Increasing sound doesn’t work. If you want, you will use pitch bend like this. Then you can’t confirm it on your piano roll. So it looks like the same note but the sound is different. Keep this in mind. Next is… You can see there is pitch bend. But I want you to care about this harmony. Let’s look at CC18. Chord mode is now turned ON. There is also vibrato by CC1. Like this. Listen to it. Let’s try to use a lot of different kinds of key switch for creating realistic sounds. MODO BASS is a physical model bass instrument. It has realistic sounds and a lot of different styles of playing. I think it will help your sound. Use it to learn it. If I find something new, I will want to tell you. Keep checking our channel. Thank you for watching. Thank you for watching this video!
