(First day in New York) I’ll try this. This is amazing. (Started eating in the middle of the street) (He’s a hot sauce lover) (His first delicious food in New York) (Had a cheeseburger at the birthplace of burgers) (This is it…) (Discovered his new-found love for American burgers) (Decided to visit all the top three burger joints) (Continued to eat for the viewers) (His cheeks were full) (He had 5 burgers in 2 days) (His second delicious food in New York) (I love oysters) (He ate and ate some more) (Producer Jung loves oysters) This is mine. (He continued to eat) (The best food market in New York) (Ate a burger once again) (For the past 5 days, he’s been having American food) (What will he have for dinner today?) – How does kimchi stew sound? / – I love it. We’re at a Korean mart. What should we buy first? Meat? Fish? Which one? – Meat. / – Meat? Okay. – This is pork neck. It’s good. / – Pork neck. – Do you like pork neck? / – Yes. Do you want it? – Okay. / – Okay. Doesn’t this look nice? – “Barbecue.” / – Let’s have this as well. Chuck tail flap or flat iron? Chuck tail flap? Okay. You know what’s better. Let’s look at thin flank too. They’re good. Okay. This is very tasty. We can have meat and sour kimchi. We’ll grill them. (But the truth is…) That’s just enough for you though. (Feeling guilty) – You can’t deny it, right? / – That is true… Actually, I’m craving instant noodles as well. – Eat everything you want. / – That’s enough. Okay. Is one pack enough? Oh? I love that. – Really? / – It’s good. (He looks so happy) (Picking out some dumplings) – This is great. / – 88. – I love this. / – Because… – I was born in 1988. / – Correct. – I like this. / – The Year of the Dragon. (Lemons…) (Should I buy one or two?) (He shows off a talent of his) – What are you doing? / – They’re lemons. Are two enough? (Buying some lemons) (Paying for them) (Haein is a generous producer) Thank you so much. Have a good night. Have a good night. (They return back to their lodging) (Haein and Jonggeon are wearing matching T-shirts) (They’ve secretly gathered in the kitchen) (Hyounsoo cooked seaweed soup for breakfast) (He’s about to cook) – Shall we begin? / – Yes. (Let’s start cooking) (I’m looking forward to our dinner) I think I should make spicy rice cakes in this pan. (His main dish is spicy rice cakes) (Prepare the main ingredient, rice cakes) (The rice cakes are stuck together) I need to take them apart. (Taking them apart by making sounds) (Trembling) (Slice the fish cakes into smaller pieces) (Opening the sauce with his mouth) (Red pepper paste) (Adequate amount of water) (Boil it at high heat) (Focused) (Looking at it intently) (He carefully adjusts the heat) (This is his style of spicy rice cakes) (I need something more) I forgot one important ingredient. What is it? Gosh, that stings. (Chopping some scallions) (He puts them in) (It looks good) (He tries it) (Munch, munch) – I need… / – What? Is it good? To add this. – What? It lacks something? / – I need to add this. (Sprinkling) Pepper? (The secret to his spicy rice cakes is pepper) This makes it very tasty. Everyone knows this taste. It’s really good. What are you doing here? Go back upstairs. – Go upstairs. / – Not yet. (They are flustered by Hyounsoo’s early arrival) Sit there and relax. – Drink something and relax. / – Okay. Let me film this. Is this on? I’ll film them. I’ve never seen you guys cook. (He’s adjusting the heat very well) The heat matters the most. Is this your style of spicy rice cakes? How do others respond to your cooking? They don’t say much. They just eat. You can find out for yourself. Do you cook for Haejun on a daily basis? Haejun? We usually order in. (In reality, they usually order in) I see. Seeing you two in matching T-shirts with all this food in front of you reminds me of the workers at Smorgasburg. Jonggeon, what are you cooking? This will be spicy and refreshing. It’s made with seafood and vegetables. This is spicy seafood noodles with a mom’s touch of aged kimchi. “Mom’s touch” may sound scary to foreigners. They may think we put mom’s hand. – You shouldn’t say that. / – You’re right. – Mom’s homemade food. / – Jonggeon is a good cook. – Something’s off, but it’s good. / – But it’s good. (How are Chef Eun’s cooking skills?) (He has great chopping skills) (He crushes the garlic with his bare hands) (A human mortar) You’ll be adding chili oil next. (Olive oil, red pepper powder, crushed garlic) (Spicy pepper, julienned onion) (Adding some Manila clams) (Fire) (He gives the food a smoky taste) (He then adds some plump shrimp) (And blue crabs full of roe) (Shake, shake) You can cook it in there. It’ll taste the same. I tried it before. Let me tell you a secret. What is it? I brought this from Korea. (He brought something from Korea) Is this your mom’s? No, it’s my mother-in-law’s. It’s really good. Isn’t it good? It’s really good. (He’s amazed by the taste) (Haein tries it as well) This is true kimchi. – This is insane. / – This is true kimchi. That’s really good aged kimchi. It’s amazing. Doesn’t it smell good? (It looks like this should air on “Live Info Show”) I’m curious about the taste as well. (He can’t wait to eat it) I’m looking forward to it. (This spicy seafood noodles will be finished soon) It’s 10 p.m. We should grill the meat here. Hyounsoo must be starving. (Smacking his lips as he waits) The heat isn’t that strong. Is that the highest? (The meat expert adjusts the heat) (He uses his bare hands) (Haein-made grilled beef) Be careful. – What? / – Be careful. I will. (He cares about him more than the meat) (Glancing) (It’s almost done, Hyounsoo) (Flipping the meat on time is very important) (Flipping) (Failed) – The heat isn’t strong, right? / – I don’t like it. It’s not strong enough. It’s not strong? He’s having trouble grilling the meat. I’m known to grill meat very well. But this is ruining my mood. (This meat expert is facing a crisis) Is that the strongest? (He needs to save the meat) It’s still not strong enough. It looks strong, though. (1st stage of his mental change: Relaxation) (2nd stage of his mental change: Anxiety) (3rd stage of his mental change: Restlessness) (4th stage of his mental change: Seriousness) (I need to save the juice) It’s okay. (5th stage of his mental change: Nirvana) (He strives to save the meat) (The meat is almost done) This is good enough. I’m done. (It looks about right) (Haein’s spicy rice cakes and beef are finished) Check out the color of this meat. (Juicy, glossy) It’s insane. Haein made this. (Filming up-close) (There are also short ribs) Hyounsoo, let’s eat. We need to eat the meat right now. I wonder how his meat tastes. How is it? (This is it) (Hyounsoo feeds Jonggeon first) (Haein feeds Hyounsoo) (Meat is always good) Is it good? (He’s proud) Is it? (Nodding many times to show his approval) The meat’s quality is good. Let’s sit down and eat. (They begin their Korean cuisine party) Let’s have some Tabasco sauce. (Producer Jung begins eating by adding hot sauce) I’ll put some over here. (Plenty) – I love this sauce. / – It looks amazing. You won’t eat anything without this sauce. I love it. Should I add some garlic? (The sauce complements the dumplings) (Nom, nom) I’ll enjoy my food. Thanks. (Enjoy) Great work. (This is the long-awaited spicy seafood noodles) We need to try Jonggeon’s dish. (Haein tries it) (Nervous) Why are you staring at me? (Like a judge at a food contest) (He sniffs it) (And sips it carefully) (Tense atmosphere) (As a spectator, he finds this hilarious) (How does this spicy seafood noodles taste?) It’s good. (Hyounsoo begins eating as well) (It’s greasy and spicy) Really? I think you’re lying. (It’s good) It’s so refreshing. (They are busy eating) The instant noodles looks good too. Is this popular in LA as well? – Yes. / – No wonder it’s called short ribs. (He enjoys the food) – Is it good? / – It is. (A Korean cuisine party in New York) This is making me sweat. It’s delicious. Shall we wrap up, now that we’re done eating? – Shall we clean up? / – Yes. It was good. It was nice. (Thank you for the meal) We need to book flights to see the Niagara Falls. Okay. (Niagara Falls?) I really want to visit Niagara Falls. (The foliage has colorfully painted the area) It’s a gift from Mother Nature. (This is Niagara Falls) (At a loss for words due to its beauty) (Awe-struck, they don’t know what to say) (This is) (Their last destination) I used this application in Korea before coming here. – We’ll depart from… / – They have both? Yes, they do. We’ll depart from JFK. We need to choose our hotel. (Searching for the hotel) – “View.” / – “View.” Some offer city views while others are just enclosed. – I see. / – There’s also a waterfall view. Will we all have the same room? Perhaps, not. (How should we divide the rooms?) (One of them will have a view) (Of the Niagara Falls) (This is Producer Jung’s last lodging) (Everyone is amazed) (The room looks outstanding) (Who will take this room?) (A game of ghost leg for the hotel rooms) – Alright. / – Here we go. Check if I’m doing it right. – One. / – I’ll go this way. – I go down, right? / – Yes. – Then… / – Over there. Alright, I’ll go here. And then… – And then… / – My gosh. – Where do I go now? / – Hey. – Is this right? / – Over there. (He tends to rap when he’s worked up) – Am I right? / – This is too harsh. Niagara! (He gets the room with the Niagara Falls view) He was bound to get it. You should take that room. – I’ll go to bed now. / – You deserve it. I’ll go upstairs now. Okay, go. (Next up is Hyounsoo) Go slowly. Do it slowly. (He’s getting near the dud) (The melody sounds sadder and sadder) Let’s go to bed. Let’s go to bed. Let’s go now. – Poor him. / – We can go now. (My sad premonition is never wrong) He lost again. Hyounsoo. (Ignoring) I’ll just set up a tent in front of the Niagara Falls. Wouldn’t that be better? I bet you’ll get a better view. Alright. I’ll be taking the waterfall view. Hyounsoo won’t have a view. He’ll be confined. I’ll be able to sleep well tonight. – Good night. / – Good night. Good night. You should at least get a good night’s sleep tonight. (Haein shows the result one last time) (Sigh) It’s been confirmed. (Their wonderful dinner has ended) (The next day, with the sound of raindrops) (Morning is here) It’s nice. The rain is… It’s nice out. You’re right. This is our sixth day in New York. This is our first Sunday here. (It was a sunny day just yesterday) (But today, the weather is completely different) Since it’s raining, it’d be uncomfortable for us to walk the entire time with our umbrellas. So I’ve prepared something. (I’ve already planned something out) We will rent a car. – Did you already rent it? / – Did you already rent it? – Yes. / – Or are we renting it now? No, I’ve already done it. I want to go on a drive. (This is how they’ll spend the weekend) (An unfamiliar city with unfamiliar streets) (This will be a special trip) (They will travel around Manhattan) (Will they be walking?) Today, we will drive. (They will drive) (They seem excited) (Glances) – Is this our car? / – Is it? There’s no way he rented such a big car. (It is their car) (Haein is flexing) It’s an American car. You’re right. – Get in, get in. / – My gosh. (Sigh) I’m so nervous. I’ll do my best. (He looks determined) (He sets out on his first drive in New York) (Half nervous and half excited) Let’s do this. Let’s go. (Calm down, my heart) (He’s so excited) (Today, he’s a producer and a driver) (He turns the wheel without any hesitation) (Do you want to go first?) Be careful. Be careful. (He’s polite) (He calmly leaves the alleyway) We should turn right. This is a one-way street. – Okay. / – Be careful. There’s a car. Okay. Hold on. – I can go now, right? / – Yes. Drive slowly. (Into the city of Manhattan) (Sigh) (Feeling nervous, he sighs) (It’s pouring down in New York) It’s raining more than I expected. (Stiff) (Gripping hard on the wheel) (Sigh) (He keeps sighing) Let’s turn on the air conditioner. – I’ll turn it on. / – It’s humid. You won’t have a hard time figuring out the direction. Really? The city incorporated the grid system. As long as you know the street and avenue numbers, you can find the location as if you’re moving on the grid. (Feeling reassured a bit) I told you people in Manhattan don’t carry umbrellas. Let me elaborate on it. – He’s playing basketball now. / – Where? – Where? / – He’s playing in the court. – He’s playing basketball now. / – You’re right. They really don’t care about getting wet. – Not at all. / – Right. He’s wearing a sleeveless shirt too. What if he catches a cold? (Don’t catch a cold) (Downtown Manhattan to Riverside) When would I have the time to rent a car and drive around the city? – Along the river. / – This is no joke. (A free-spirited jogger in the rain) Look. – Did you see that? The jogger. / – Yes. He’s running in the rain. (Being in the rain is natural for New Yorkers) (Looking outside the window is quite fun) (This is the fun part of going for a drive) – Is that a river or an ocean? / – It’s a river. Is that the Hudson River? – Is that the Hudson River? / – Yes. Is this the famous Hudson River? (There are 2 rivers that run next to Manhattan) (Hudson River) (Between New Jersey) (And Manhattan) (Hudson River) It’s very wide. It’s so wide that you can’t see the other side. (George Washington Bridge) (When traveling between Manhattan and New Jersey) (The ferry works as a means of transportation) (What’s that?) Are you seeing that? That kind of scares me. – That’s a ship? / – Yes, it is. – What kind of ship is it? / – It’s a cruise ship. (A huge cruise ship) (An intimidating scale in the heart of the city) (A cruise in the middle of the city?) Look at that. That’s huge. Hold on. That’s an aircraft carrier. It was in operation before. They made it into a museum now. (There’s a lot to see along the Hudson River) (A traffic light for a left turn) (Catching the signal quickly) (He’s driving like locals) (Smooth cornering) Your cornering was flawless. – He’s good. He’s a good driver. / – Yes. You know, I’m pretty good at driving. Do you know why his driving is so smooth? Of course, I know. He used to be the driver in the army. He was in a position where he has to drive with the utmost care. You weren’t just a regular driver. I drove for a division commander. (Feeling proud of his position) I took a test for the position. There were 8 to 9 applicants. But I was selected. When I was a private… Do you know the ACE Truck? It was a 2.5 truck. I used to drive that. Is it called a 2.5 truck because it can carry 2.5t? Yes, that’s correct. It was huge. (Driving the army truck was a piece of cake) It looks massive at a glance. When I got promoted to the private first class… I became a driver for a division commander of two-star rank. The difference between our ranks was huge. It’s a world of difference. I was so nervous. Do you have any stories? I have a lot. Here’s one. I had to exit from the highway. But I didn’t. (He passed the exit as he couldn’t find one) Did you go to prison for it? You didn’t? – I didn’t go to prison for it. / – Okay. But I was scolded a lot. (You scared me for a second) One time, it was raining heavily. I… I got into a car accident. How did that happen? I had to drive to Seoul with the commander. The car just stopped running. – All of a sudden. / – What did you do? – The handle won’t move then. / – Yes. I was so flustered. Imagine being on a highway in the rain. Wait, then, you couldn’t even pull over to the side? I was trying to pull over, so I tried to start the car momentarily. I made a last-ditch effort. I moved it to the shoulder of the road. – I was so scared when I moved it. / – Okay. I could see the cars behind me with the mirror. From the back, there was a huge car. Because it was dangerous, it had full beam on and came at us. That flashed through my mind. The headlights… (Getting goosebumps) I managed to deal with the accident quickly. Actually, they complimented me for my job there. (The story ends with his bragging) – Amazing. / – Gosh. Good job. (I’ll give you that) Hyounsoo, what are you scared of? Me? I’m not scared of ghosts. – You’re not scared of ghosts? / – Come on, Haein. Nothing scares Hyounsoo. He was a marine. I’m a marine. Marines scare away even the ghosts. Of course, he’s not scared of them. Right. I caught about 47 ghosts. That’s a lot. Did you know this about Hyounsoo? He was really bulky when he was in the marines. He’s tall. – I weighed 88kg. / – 88kg. He must’ve been really bulky given his height. I was in charge of the mortar. I had to walk around while carrying that. So I was pretty muscular because of my duty. Hyounsoo, let’s use this spare moment and do an acrostic poem with Manhattan. (An unexpected turn of events) (All of a sudden) – Give me the syllables. / – M. Men. – Is that it? / – Yes. H. How are you? (He starts speaking English confidently again) – T. / – How is it going? (Looking forward to the ending) T… That’s too hard. You have to come up with your lines right away. You’re not supposed to prepare an acrostic poem. – Let’s try this right away. M. – Is it my turn? / – M. My first arrival… In New York. (He begins with a witty introduction) H. I looked up to the sky. (Impressed) T. I twitched with amazement. Okay. Not bad. Twitched with amazement. (Your poem smells like flowers) It was a bit too serious. – You need to improvise. / – You failed, okay? (Feeling proud) – It was too serious. / – My gosh. (He feels like he has lost) – Hyounsoo. You failed. / – You need to improvise. Come on. Are you serious? – Try again. M. / – Let me do it again. – M. / – M. – Men. / – How are you? How are you? How are you, Jonggeon? T. Tight body. (He suddenly touches his body) (This is why we call him Mr. Confidence) – Not bad. / – Tight body. Not bad. (He totally wins them over) (They are having fun even in the car) It’s raining more heavily than before. (The raindrops are getting bigger) I like rainy days. I like driving around in the rain. – It’s cozy. / – Yes. I get used to the rain. (Driving in the rain is the best) – Do you know this song? / – Which song? (Suddenly asking a question) The song from the movie? Is this the song? Right. It’s by Damien Rice. (DJ Lim can read the room) – Gosh, on a rainy day… / – DJ Lim. (Nicely done) Did it stop raining? Hyounsoo. You’re the DJ. (He’s driving with one hand on the wheel) Hyounsoo, I guess we’re going shopping. – Shopping? / – Yes, we’re in SoHo now. – This is SoHo? / – We must be going shopping. – We’re in SoHo. / – Shopping. (Entering SoHo with a mellow song) (When it rains and there’s music) (Feeling sentimental) (The perfect drive in New York which Haein dreamed of) Hyounsoo, let’s listen to one more song. Okay. We can listen to several songs. (As many as you’d like) Can you play “Spring Waltz?” “Spring…” – “Waltz.” / – “Spring Waltz?” Hyounsoo, you have to know this song. Right. (A familiar melody) – He has to know this song. / – Haein. From the drama? Right. I have to know this song. (The soundtrack for “One Spring Night,” their drama) (Producer Jung’s New York Playlist) This is a soundtrack from “One Spring Night.” But, we’re listening to it as we enjoy the fall rain. (A perfect way to wrap up their drive in New York) (Let’s get moving again) (That was a very nice drive) (He puts on a smile) As you can see, it’s raining. So I’m going to take you guys to a place that befits the overall mood. I knew it. It’s a perfect place to go when it’s dark and rainy. (What? What are you saying?) (A gloomy Sunday in New York) (A place that feels very spooky) (An unknown laughter that fills the streets) (Where is this place?) I said we’ll be going someplace “dark.” It’s right here. It’s called Blood Manor. I really wanted to come here. Since it’s raining today. (The name itself is already spooky) This is in the center of Manhattan, New York. And it only opens during the Halloween season. It’s like a haunted house. A haunted house. It’s like a haunted house. (The two guys suddenly feel very lost) (They try to act cool about it) A haunted house. I thought you’re not scared of ghosts. – I’m not scared. / – So you’re okay with this? (A house with bloody red lights) (People are constantly screaming) (The entire place is very eerie) This place was visited by Jimmy Fallon, who’s kind of like the Yu Jaeseok of America, and it became very popular after he came and experienced this. (Chad Coleman also thought it was scary) (Blood Manor only opens from October to November) (The tickets get sold out soon, so make reservations) (A place where all the brave New Yorkers gather) (Welcome to the haunted house) – You seem a little nervous. / – No. – You shouldn’t be scared. / – I was a marine. Exactly. A marine doesn’t fear ghosts. But why are we clearing out throats? Jonggeon isn’t scared of ghosts. But to be honest, I’m a little scared of ghosts. – Okay. / – We’re going to compare… Korean ghosts to American ghosts and see which ones are scarier. We’ll see… Which ones are scarier. Let’s go. (Will they be able to finish it without giving up) – We’re going on. / – Hyounsoo, you go first. Let’s go inside. – Hyounsoo. / – Don’t worry, you guys. I’m not scared at all, but you can go first. We’re all pushing him to go first. (They want Hyounsoo to go first) – Let’s go. Wait up. / – Hey, promise me… That you’re not going to run away. – I want to be in the middle. / – What? – Why? I want to be in the middle. / – No, I’m scared. – Let me be in the center. / – No. – I want to be in the middle. / – No way. – No. / – I want to be in the middle. This place is too dark. Don’t be scared. You were in the Marine Corps. Yes, I know that. (The night vision mode to capture their reactions) – No. / – I want to be in the middle. – Hyounsoo, you go first. / – This place is too dark. Don’t be scared. You were in the Marine Corps. Yes, I know that. It’s okay. Hyounsoo, teach the ghosts a lesson. A marine can even take down American ghosts. Wait. (They all freeze after hearing a small sound) – This hasn’t even started. / – Right. – I just… / – We haven’t even started. (They’re still on their way to the starting point) We still have to go a bit further. – Let’s protect each other. / – Okay. (Startled) (Welcome, you guys) Wow. (Nervous) (They greet them at the entrance) “Blood Manor.” It feels so real. I’m starting to get a little scared. I thought you weren’t scared. You told us earlier that you’re not scared of ghosts or people. – Are you guys ready? / – Yes. Ready. – Alright. / – Just a moment. I need to breathe. – You need to breathe? / – Yes. I’m very nervous. (Exhales) There are couple of quick rules before we go inside. Do not touch any of the actors or props. They will not touch you. They’ll get close to you, but they won’t touch you. (They’re already scared, they’re doomed) (Beyond that door are American ghosts) Move on! Get on it and good luck. Jonggeon, do you want to go first? – Okay, let’s go. / – You go first. Hyounsoo. Jonggeon, you go first. – Let’s go. / – Go on. – Let’s go. Come on. / – Jonggeon, you go first. – Jonggeon, you go first. / – Jonggeon, you go first. – Jonggeon, you go first. / – Which way is it? – Jonggeon, you go first. / – Is it this way? – Jonggeon, you go first. / – It’s this way, right? This isn’t the right way. – This isn’t it. / – It’s not? – Let’s go that way. / – Come on. Let’s go. (What does their fate hold?) (To be continued in part 2)
