MASSIVE TUTORIAL | EDM/Dubstep/Trap Sound FX
Hello and welcome to another tutorial. Now
with my voice. To keep up with the theme of the last tutorial im gonna stick with designing
FX in Massive. So today im gonna make the downshifter and to begin im gonna set my envelope.
of course i wanna sustain the tone (plays a mix of saw and square wave) so i increase
my level and bring back my attack. so the sound will play right as i hit the note and
sustain until i let go of the note. ahem. so for my first oscillator im gonna make it
a square wave. as a matter of fact im gonna draw in a little midi note here for 2 bars.
and ill just put it right over here. make it 2 bars and i am gonna set this up by 2
octaves and im gonna use my first envelope to modulate the pitch of this first oscillator.
and im actually gonna bring it down a lot. im gonna bring it down by about -60 here.
im gonna turn up this envelope and im gonna bring the attack back. so what it will do
is go down in pitch in a straight line. i can actually bring this down an octave cuz
its a little high. and this attack can be adjusted to however long your note is playing.
im just using this length for the example. Biouuuuuuuuuuooooo. i think that sounds about
right. so what im gonna do for my second oscillator -actually im gonna turn this one off since
we dont need this. im not gonna use this either. ahm. i probably wont use this. alright so
this one im gonna use squelchy because i think it sounds nice. im gonna bring it up an octave.
one octave. and im gonna mix this in a little bit. i want a little less of the square cuz
its a little louder. im gonna turn it off so we can hear what we are doing. alright
so heres what that sounds like when i bring it down by 60 as well. Biouuuuuuoooaaw. that
has a nice sound to it. especially if you modulate this wave table position with the
same envelope. just has that nice… i dont know -mechanical machine feel. and we can
add to this effect by using an envelope to wobble the pitch by 1 semitone. ill use the
rate to decrease the amount of wobbling it does. so it goes from fast wobbling to slow.
and since thats gonna sound really weird when its slow. this slow oscillation -well ill
show you. see its very out of tune at the end. if youre trying to put this in a track
it would probably will not harmonize well with the rest cuz its gonna be playing, well,
LFOing around the note. and its most likely going to be out of key. so what i like to
do is also modulate this amplitude so the LFO slowly stops LFOing as the downshifter
shifts down. if that makes sense. so thats cool but we can make this a little bit cooler.
and to do that we’re going to use a bandpass and im gonna put this right about over here
and turn up the bandpass. so we have this and im gonna LFO the bandpass. and right away
it makes it sound a lot cooler. so im gonna turn that up a little bit so hopefully thats
not gonna hurt your ears. so thats not too bad. i like to add a little bit of brauner
tube and crank it up and also modulate the dry wet. so it sounds a little beefier but
it sounds a little cleaner if you modulate the dry wet. and there you have it. nice quick
and easy. thanks for watching and if you like this video and it helped you then please subscribe
or leave a like. ill be uploading very consistantly about 2 to 3 times a week with a new tutorial
each time and once in a while a little bit of music in between depending on how i feel
producing or uploading. so thanks for watching and i hope you have a great day!
