One Thing: Richard Veenstra – Modular jams

December 6, 2019 9 By Kailee Schamberger

Hi I’m Richard, and one thing I like to do
is record my modular jams. I usually limit myself to 2 or 3 modules and begin patching. At the same time, I start recording
in Live’s Arrangement View to make sure I don’t miss any happy accidents. Live sends out two audio pulses. The faster pulse is a steady clock, so that everything will match Live’s tempo. The slower one is one audio pulse in each bar. So, I’ll have a reset pulse for loops for rhythmical modulations. After recording for 15-30 minutes, I select and edit
the most interesting parts. It can be a loop, a drum sound or the whole jam. Then I export the results and delete the original recordings. In jams like these there are most often some very inspiring moments. And it’s a refreshing idea that none of this can be exactly
recreated, and only the most inspiring ideas are saved for future use.
