the first week of chemo no I think was two weeks later my hair started coming out the reality does hit when you go bald that you do have cancer you can't be in denial because you know that you really have it we started the chemo that was very hard when my hair started falling out because it was coming out in hunks it really takes away who you are you know when you look in the mirror you look so sick you don't know if I feel that sick but you look terrible like okay well I got good ice and how many eyelashes or eyebrows right now but I got good eyes Pantene created its Beautiful Lengths program because healthy hair means everything to us and it means so much to a woman who is battling cancer we want to be there for women when feeling and looking healthy is the most important thing to them thanks to the generosity of people who grow cut and donate their hair Pantene Beautiful Lengths by a partnership with the American Cancer Society creates beautiful real hair wigs for women living with cancer cancer certainly causes damage to women on many levels physically and emotionally and having a wig is a key part of the healing process so they feel better about themselves in the journey that they're facing putting on a wig makes you feel like you're you're still you I think it was late August of 2006 we thought what if we had one student come down and actually donate the hair like right there in front of everybody in the school by early January which was the scheduled pep rally anyway we had 67 kids signed up these girls really decide even a year or two ahead of time you know they're donating their hair to this cause it is a priceless gift that they're giving Pantene Beautiful Lengths is something our school has really rallied behind we're one school in a country in a world that's fighting cancer real hair wigs are expensive but there's nothing like a real hair wig real hair you can touch you can style you can cut you can run your fingers through it you can fix it short and spiky long and curly it makes you your own individual person so wigs are very important how short is my hair going to be the great thing about the Beautiful Lengths program is it makes these wigs available free of charge to women who might not otherwise be able to afford them now that other people get to use our hair only other people feel beautiful too I have always had my long hair so I'm finally doing it this is my third time giving my hair this is my second time give my it maybe about up the hair my grandmother lost her hair it was tough seeing her go through that and I want to help so that other people don't have to feel that way too Amelia asked me to cut her hair why with ninety percent I'm doing it for a reason yes my aunt kandi is coming from Ohio to cut my hair tomorrow you want me to cut your hair you know I just I couldn't believe it she had double mastectomy and I thought that's the least I could do is give my hair so somebody else could have a wig my grandmother will be here to cut my hair she'll be here sporting her wig on Friday tomorrow you are on stage on that floor it's a big big day it's a big day to have this Kyle come together last year we had 190 and we thought we will never ever ever exceed that number tomorrow on the floor 195 of you unbelievable everyone who is giving is so excited and I think there are nerves but we all feel like we're doing something bigger than ourselves when you have this many people together this much energy think of the causes you could promote we have a few minutes away we need to get final setup classes they would never come putter's please come forward and sit behind their angels our cutters cutting it off is kind of like a huge cuz I love my hair if there's any way to make someone that's already in that much pain feel better it means a lot that I can help them it's so touching to think that they're enduring something that they don't need to they don't have to do this ready Tammy teddy make bad record breaking call three two the moment you hear the scissors like cutting hair you can hear you're like I feel like I'm really doing something good right now it's so important to give back to people and it's a gift from those young women to help some young person or an older person to fight the fight of their life I think almost any high school would do this here's a chance to do something good they gave me something is so much more valuable than money I donated 14 inches students downstairs that getting the hair cut by the stylist they're hugging each other it's a feeling like they've never had before to help fight cancer the best way they can at this point in their lives the need is significant for wigs in this country and we rely on the generosity of donors to make sure that we're able to meet the demand I'm doing it again growing my hair out into a year from now and I'm do it again I loved it so much knowing people who are strangers are doing this for you you feel more like I have other people behind me that don't even know me that are rooting for me you
