Tiger Temple Thailand: Temple or Tiger Business? Volunteering behind the scenes at Tiger Temple

I am walking right now to go to the bus to go to Tiger Temple First day, I am a bit nervous Because it is a very controversial place. No idea what to expect. Don't want to get mauled by a tiger. I was kind of hesitate to tell people. Because some people are really, really… "Oh you are going to go work there?" And they are very "It is so bad" and blah, blah, blah. But nobody really knows. Welcome to Tiger Temple Really, really interested in this place. It's definitely fascinating. I haven't seen any place like it in the world. This place is obviously a hotbed of controversy. I like to investigate things for myself. I don't want to hear what everybody else has to say and just take it for face value. But this place is a trip. I mean it looks like Jurassic Park. Or like a prison. You see all this barbed wire and fences around here. At first I kind of hesitant and really apprehensive around the cats. But as the week's going on I am feeling much more comfortable. I never came here as a tourist. So I just kind of came here not knowing what to expect. Basically there are 122 tigers here. Most of them bred in captivity. And tons of other animals. Water Buffalo. Peacocks. Tigers…lions… …and of course… Bears So behind me is the canyon… The entrance to the canyon anyway. And it is where basically all the photo taking magic takes place here at Tiger Temple. "Here you go…group pictures. Individual pictures." "Anyone who is brave enough to hold the tigers head, will get some souvenirs." Weird…a fairytale… Just saw my first Canyon show. Not sure how I feel about it. The guy hit the tiger in the head with a chair I still feel very mixed with how about feel about the place as a whole. You know is it conservation? Or is it exploitation? Is it giving these tigers a loving, and caring life? Or is it…you know? Just another tourist trap that exploits these rare animals? And do we need more captive tigers? What about more wild tigers? You know that should be the main focus since that is the main problem. As you can see behind me at Tiger Temple This is where they are building their brand new Temple. Which is kind of like a big Vatican-like building. Obviously it has been start. The foundation has been laid. Yeah this is the priority. The money that comes in, the first priority of the money is to the temple construction. This idea that getting photos with a cute cub and so hands on with tigers that they maybe they forget some of the bigger picture questions.
